TranSiC accelerates development with STING
Bo Hammarlund, CEO and founder at TranSiC, means that without STING′s help the business could not have developed so quickly. He points out the support found among the STING-companies own networks and the resources it gives newly started companies with international export ambitions as central.
It took TranSiC only eighteen months to commercialize the research in silicon carbibe it has pursued at KTH since 1992. Bo Hammarlund attributes the speed of the journey to the support from Stockholm Innovation & Growth.
− The business coaches have acted as vital springboards against which we have been able to set realistic goals for the road. In addition, they contribute with the real business thinking that can't be found in academia. STING's Business Accelerator really lives up to its name. Thanks to STING we went from idea to our first customer delivery in just two years!
TranSiC′s silicon carbide transistors can be broadly used in everything from wind farms to hybrid cars and electric trains. Today they′ve been in touch with practically all the Western Hemisphere′s automobile manufacturers. The company has received financing from Industrifonden, Volvo Technology Transfer and Midroc New Technology and even Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Department.
− In addition, we received STING′s and the Innovation Bridge′s Lab Checks for 300,000 kr very early on. This helped us considerably while developing our final product, says Bo Hammarlund. Today the employees number only three but the next goal on the list is expanding to a dozen to meet demands. The company's vision is to set up their own factory in perhaps Järfälla in the next five years.
One of the reasons the founders sought out STING was that Bo Hammarlund had previously gone through one of the programs as an employee in another start up company.
− I had excellent experiences from the last time. I'm referring especially to the business coaches' professional help and open demeanors. Today we have a good team in TranSiC with experiences and contacts from both academia and industry. This has meant that we've needed less direct help but been able to draw all the more from the other STING companies experiences and networks, says Bo Hammarlund.
