STING's flexibility suited Mobile Sorcery
Tomas Uppgård, CEO and co-founder of Mobile Sorcery, sees STING′s entrepreneur event Innovation & Technology as especially valuable. STING′s flexible business coaches were also important for the company′s development.
Mobile Sorcery was one of the first companies to use STING′s resources that opened in 2005 at KTH′s central campus. The proximity to academia was crucial to the company at the start. Two of the founders had ongoing commitments at KTH and thanks to STING's location, they could combine these with the start of the company.
- Even if we've all had experience with entrepreneurship before, STING′s help has been very important, says Tomas Uppgård. A spot in STING′s Business Lab meant that we could start up even with comparatively small resources. It also means a lot for newly started companies to sit near other companies in the same situation. For one thing, we can exchange knowledge, but it′s also inspiring to feel the pulse of the others′ development.
Mobile Sorcery has developed a tool to create mobile applications and services. The development tool can considerably simplify the transfer of a mobile program to the market′s maze of cellphone models. Today the tool is spread as a beta version in order to gather future user′s opinions and further wishes for the coming product.
− It′s important to spread the tool far. Therefore, the first step was to give away early versions of the program to the programmers who will buy the complete product, says Tomas Uppgård.
At the same time they also participate in a collaboration in order to develop a talking mobile guide for the vision impaired. This job is done at the request of Stockholm City and the consulting company Astando. The guide, unique in the world, can be developed using our tool, showing how useful it really is, says Tomas Uppgård.
Mobile Sorcery started in STING′s Business Lab and is today in the final stages of Business Accelerator. Even the physical needs like office space has meant a lot for the startup phase, says Tomas Uppgård, but most valuable is the coaching they have received from STING.
− The most important thing is not how much time you get per week with your business coach. The most important thing is to get the help you need when you need it. STING manages very well in delivering that flexibility, says Tomas Uppgård. The investment we received from STING Capital was also very important for allowing to develop our tool further. The financial model they offer suited us very well.

− It′s a unique event in Sweden where new entrepreneurs can meet each other, but also establish contacts with potential investors. There′s also the possibility of making contacts with experienced entrepreneurs who have completed the journey you′re only just beginning, says Tomas Uppgård.
